Happy Easter!

I know its a little late in the day, but hey, better late than never. We have really had a great Easter weekend. As you can see in the above picture, the Easter bunny came and delivered some "fabulous" blue Peeps and some new cars to Quinn. I say "fabulous" because I personally think Peeps are the most disgusting thing and I don't understand how my child can tolerate them. Blech. We had a great time hanging out as a family today. Church was very nice this morning too.

Yesterday we had a family party at Ross' cousin Debbie's house. Quinn had an absolute blast. He got to play with his cousins all day, swim, eat, have an Easter egg hunt, and he got to skip his nap. He was in heaven. It was so nice to see family, some that we don't get to see all that often, and just have a relaxing day.

Daddy and Quinn headed out to find eggs. (Ross hid them, so I guess Quinn had an advantage here).

Debbie helping Quinn locate another egg.

This picture has nothing to do with Easter, but it was so cute I had to include it. Ross was shaving yesterday before we left and I guess Quinn wanted to try it too!

I hope you all had a great Easter and remember what we are really celebrating - Matthew 28:5-7. Check it out.

Ugh....3 year olds

Look at that face...so sweet, so adorable, right (thanks to Kate for the picture)? Yeah, he's fooling you all. A few weeks before he turned 3, its like a switch was flipped and my wonderful, loving boy became somewhat of a monster. When he turned 2, I noticed some changes, but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. It was just independence/finding self kind of stuff. This is a whole other ball of wax.

He whines all.the.time. About everything. Just now we were walking up the stairs and Ross was carrying my purse and Quinn flipped out that he wasn't able to carry it. Now, under normal circumstances, he wouldn't even think about carrying my purse, even if I asked him. But it was just something to whine about. He whines about food, the potty (don't even get me started on that), toys, going places, not going places, the list goes on and on. And on and on.

He also think he should be allowed to do whatever he wants whenever he wants, and he's not afraid to let you know he doesn't like what is on the agenda. I don't know about you, but I'm not one to let a short, somewhat spastic person who can't quite yet control all their bodily functions make the rules in my house. But boy does he think he should.

I know this kind of ties in with the whining, but he also enjoys throwing fits. They often include throwing himself on the ground, kicking, throwing things, and the most enjoyable thing of all, screaming. I usually leave him alone when that happens, and he often quickly forgets what he was even throwing a fit about.

But even through all that, he is the best boy I could hope for and I'm proud he's my son. I just welcome breaks even more now!!

Next on the reading list

Its another great Show Us Your Life over at Kelly's blog today, what's on your reading list. This one is particularly relevant to me, as I love to read and am making a concerted effort to read more. My goal for the year is 15 books, and according to Goodreads, I'm 3 books ahead of schedule!! Go me!!

The next book I'm going to read is An Object of Beauty by Steve Martin. Yes, that Steve Martin. I've always heard he's an excellent writer, so I thought I'd give his new book a shot. The book is about the life of an art dealer is NYC, so its not something I would normally pick up, which is something I've been trying to do. I'll let you know what I think!

After An Object of Beauty, the next book on my list is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, a non-fiction book. I first heard about this on the radio before it was released and it has intrigued me since. Henrietta Lacks was a poor, young African-American woman in 1951 who died of cancer. While in the hospital, cells were taken from her body that, from what I understand, to this day are still multiplying, which has never happened before. The book is about the journey both the cells and Henrietta's family take over the next decades, and how the discovery of what was taken affects the Lacks'.
I put this book on the list even though I'm in the middle of reading it for my Bible study. It is quite different from the usual happy Bible study book. It is about truly living in faith and listening to what God is telling it. It has been a little tough, but it is definitely worth it. I suggest you check it out, especially if you are in a good group, as discussion is very necessary.
There are many other books on my reading list past these, including Rebecca, One Day, The Lonely Polygamist, some Francine Rivers (since Redeeming Love is such a great book I think I should check out more of her) and I'm sure the list will grow. Pick up a book and enjoy!

And we're back....again

Its like every time I try to get on the blogging train, a rock on the rails throws me off again. A couple weeks ago I had a pretty great Wednesday...helped at Quinn's field day at school, went to work, took Quinn to Sarasota to see a friend of mine from high school who was on vacation. We had a great time. When we got home that night I didn't feel that great and I had a slight fever. I went to bed, got up the next morning, and bam, I was sick. Fever, aches, all that crap. Then I started vomiting. It was terrible. It continued for a week and a half, including a worthless trip to the walk-in clinic. I eventually ended up in the ER when I couldn't keep my eyes open and could barely move. Turns out I was severely anemic. Severely. The average hemoglobin level is 12-16. Mine was a 6. I spent 2 days in the hospital and they couldn't figure out what caused it. So while we're still waiting on that, at least I'm up and mobile and feeling pretty ok. But of course yesterday Quinn got an ear infection, so now I've got that to deal with. The fun never stops around here!!

So here are some pictures of Quinn, to lighten the mood!

A couple weekends ago we went to a Touch-a-Truck event in Tampa. Quinn had a great time. Here he is on a fire truck.

This is at field day at school. I helped out in the obstacle course, which with a class of 2-3 year olds, was pretty amusing.
A couple pictures from our trip to Sarasota. We went to Siesta Key for a bit and Quinn ran around in the surf for a while. He LOVES the beach. Must be the Floridian in him.
